Although up until now HYPE only published revolutionary articles in March about the national holiday, this year, owing to an enquiry, the events of October 23 will also be featured.
The basic question was how we could display the fall events starting on October 23 in a manner that the entirety of Budapest can be shown and not only the things that took place on that particular day, but the events of the beginning of November could also be shown. Maybe the map was one of the first and best choices to create this info-illustration map (that can hardly be called an infographic). The image of Budapest known from the history atlases depicting the events of 1956 inspired me to create my two-color illustration under the title “Our troops are fighting.”, on which I strived to display all sites that were significant spots of the revolution in Budapest.
Although the orientation of buildings and sites placed on the map is hardly in order, I tried to create a complex system so that these placements do not result in total chaos. As the volumes of the different buildings also vary, at the beginning of my work I applied a specific width and shaped every building using such width in a manner not to compromise their characteristics.
The entire poster made for the 59th anniversary of the ‘56 Revolution:
