The Budapest Architecture Film Festival starts on Thursday!

The 14th season of the Budapest Architecture Film Days starts this week at the Toldi Cinema. The slogan of this year’s event series, ACT GLOBAL!, draws attention to shaping the environment as a global action. The Film Days program encourages people to cross borders, look around the world, get inspired and take action. The festival will be held offline again this year, with screenings and accompanying events hosted at the Toldi Cinema.

This year’s opening film, The Chief Government Architect—The Power of Imagination, follows Floris Alkemade, former Chief Designer of the OMA, behind the scenes for three years. Among other films participating in the festival, three films focus on the modern architectural heritage: Dorte Mandrup talks about the essence and requirements of architecture today; Bruce Mau shows how design can contribute to a better life, and the story of Peter Rice highlights the amazing role engineers play in the shadow of architects. Lingering in the stunning landscapes of Cape Town and Los Angeles, we delve into the relationship between water infrastructure and ecosystems, but also discover what links the indigenous Dayak tribe to the Tokyo Olympics. We can get up close and personal with Marcell Breuer, known as a designer in Europe and an architect and teacher overseas; try a new way of living together in Milan; experience the power of community, brought to life by the resistance to gentrification and mass tourism in Lisbon and Marseille; and in the closing film of the festival, we can find out how cycling can be a cure for the hardships of modern life.
