The Ukrainian pavilion’s curators are committed to the Venice Biennale

At the Ukrainian pavilion of the 59th Venice Biennale, artist Pavlo Makov will present The Fountain of Exhaustion. Acqua Alta (1995–2022). The kinetic artwork, exploring the themes of infrastructural ruins, cultural erasure, climate collapse, and war, will be the focal point of the pavilion in Venice, despite the war in Ukraine, thanks to the pavilion’s curators: Lizaveta German and Maria, and also to Lankoand Borys Filonenko.

The Fountain of Exhaustion exhibition at the Venice Biennale brings Ukraine’s cultural heritage to the international spotlight. The work will give the public the opportunity to witness for themselves the growing awareness of Ukrainian culture and the historical events of the last thirty years.

The artwork is currently paralleling the lives of those involved in its exhibition, who are adapting and responding very quickly to the uncertain circumstances of war. Pavlo Makov’s commitment to the Biennale and to the exhibition of his work, as well as the challenges faced by the Ukrainian Pavilion’s team of curators and organizers, all add value and new layers of meaning to The Fountain of Exhaustion.
