Art is flourishing again in the Arabian Desert, as the second Desert X AlUla, an offshoot of the famous California festival Desert X, opened on 11 February. The exhibition explores ideas of mirage and oasis under the theme of Sarab.
Fifteen installations by Saudi and international artists will fill the deserted space with life during the festival. Alongside Reem Fadda and Raneem Farsi, the exhibition was co-curated by Neville Wakefield, who sees the landscape itself as the actual director of the open-air exhibition.
The artists, including Shadia Alem, Dana Awartani, Abdullah AlOthman and Shaikha Al Mazrou, explore the relationship between man and nature through land art installations that respond to the location. Composed of diverse materials and taking advantage of the desert and light, the multi-complex works are on view at the ancient site until 30 March 2022.
