MG Építész Kft. won the Big See Award Architecture category with the remodeling of the workshop hall built in the 1960s on the campus of the University of Miskolc, thus earning a chance to win the main prize in October 2021.
The building, which houses the newly established Center of Cooperation in Higher Education for Intelligent Technologies and Advanced Materials (FIEK), has received new research sites and an innovation and startup center. As a result of the reconstruction, youthful, inspiring spaces were created that better reflect their function.
The Labor Workshop Hall, built in 1962, and consisting of six identical, structurally independent bodies and a narrower main building, used to serve educational purposes in the field of technical training, but its functions have since changed. During the reconstruction, the existing chambers were partially renovated and remodeled, and new spaces were created. Among the most spectacular points of intervention are the new main entrance with the representative reception areas, the startup center, and the new footbridge connecting the hall with the adjacent building.
