Paul Milinski’s artificial landscapes made with 3D visualization may not only offer possibilities for daydreaming – who said we can’t imagine and then design our future in such an idyllic manner?
Letting our fantasy run wild isn’t easy for all of us. Divorcing from reality can be hard, even though the truly innovative ideas are usually born beyond the already existing world. Luckily more and more creators (also producing significant works in real life) allow themselves to let their fantasy run wild – thus giving a boost to those who wouldn’t dare to dream big on their own. Media artist Paul Milinski, for example, the art director of Australian creative agency Vaulter, is one of them.
Clicking on Milinski’s Instagram profile is like travelling to another planet, or to an idyllic version of the Earth. Amidst the lush greenery, hills and waterfalls, white and pastel colored, delicate, Modernist buildings are hiding. It has a little bit of post-Modern and a little from Le Corbusier’s India, but all these are only glimmering, as the buildings themselves too are only accessories and a background to nature playing the lead role in Milinski’s world.

In an interview with designboom, Milinski said he always starts with a sketch, all he needs is a few lines to create a spark and then he follows his intuition from there. Then he creates the visualizations with 3D rendering.
“Through the juxtaposition of realities, these pieces urge us to inspire change in how we treat the Earth. Within the captured mood, they are designed to transport you along pathways that illustrate a potential future and offer a chance to wonder and escape.”
