A café like no other | Bawić Bawialnia

In today’s article, we visit the heart of Warsaw to discover a café where the whole family can have a good time. Take a look inside!

The two owners, Patrycja and Bartosz, wanted to create a place where children and adults alike could immerse themselves in the joy of playing and spending time together. It is even suggested by the name of the café, as the word ‘bawić’ means ‘to entertain’. Interior designer Angelika Fedorczuk was briefed about the concept at their very first meeting, which described “a playroom like no other”.

The owners wanted a space that soothes the senses and calms the nerves instead of agitating them, which, let’s face it, is often the case with playhouses and other spaces designed for children. Usually, such places are characterized by flashy neon colors, an ocean of plastic, and an endless hubbub. In contrast, the owners have envisioned a café dominated by soft shapes, wooden toys, and pastel colors.

Patrycja and Bartosz carefully selected every aspect of the project, traveling almost all over Poland in search of furniture and toys that matched their vision. Luckily, they had some help in the form of their two-year-old son, who was eager to test every toy, as well as the finished play area in the café.

The café and the play area are separated by a curtain, which allows for intimacy while still allowing parents to keep an eye on their children. The owners wanted a completely coherent interior, so there are recurring shapes and colors throughout the two areas. The space is largely dominated by spherical and rounded objects and surfaces, making the overall effect soft and feminine, yet simple.

As mentioned earlier, the interior is characterized by muted, subtle shades of blue, beige, and green rather than bold colors. One of the most striking features of the café is a large blue ball pit with a slide.

As the owner explains, “ENTERTAIN is a very important and big project for us. We wanted to create a place where both children and parents could feel comfortable because we are all equally important.”
