The game’s designer, Pat Naoum, spent seven years working on the game, hand-painting each frame to bring the enchanting world of Claude Monet closer to the players
Throughout the game, you can explore the painter Claude Monet’s life through the lens of his vision, while learning about his paintings. Exploring the landscape of his life through his eyes is to be understood quite literally, as what appear to be green tendrils are in fact tiny details of the iris that lead to the pupil. Pat painted everything with his own hands and says the biggest challenge was adapting his own style to the master’s paintings. Although the vines look larger in the game, he actually painted them to a width of just 5 millimeters, which required him to use the smallest brush possible. This also made it difficult to digitize the paintings, as he was unable to get a really detailed rendering with a camera, so he ended up having to use a scanner.
The game is available since 28 July on Nintendo Switch and also for Windows and Mac via Steam.
