The homeless charity is holding two auctions simultaneously on the occasion of its birthday, with many Hungarian artists offering their artworks or personal items.
The Utcáról Lakásba! Egyesület (“From Street to Home! Association”) has been working for ten years to make it a matter of course for as many people as possible to live in a safe and independent home. They believe that homeless shelters do not provide the right conditions for homeless people to reintegrate into society. They also run a social housing network and a housing agency, which now helps more than 100 people, including families with children and elderly people. They not only focus on housing but also provide support in finding work and run support groups.
On May 13, two auctions will be held at the FUGA Budapest Építészeti Központ, with the proceeds going to help homeless people. For the auctions, entitled Könyvhajlék (“Book Shelter”) and Otthonmesék (“Home Tales”), renowned Hungarian artists offered their artworks or personal objects that are of great importance to them. The items offered at the Home Tales auction are a collection of the work of an illustrator-writer duo, inspired by each other. Among the artists who donated to the Book Shelter auction are Imre Bukta, István Nádler, Ádám Nádasdy, Anna Szabó T., and Krisztina Tóth, among others. Among the unique donations is a book of poems signed by György Petri, offered up for auction by Szabolcs Várady, and a complete handwritten version of Virág Erdős’s book published ten years ago. The latter was specially prepared by the poet for the occasion. The items of the Home Tales auction will be up for bidding online on the association’s website until 22:00 on 12 May, while the Book Shelter items will be auctioned live at the FUGA on 13 May.
