Hungarian success at one of Europe's most prestigious design fairs

Excellent results were achieved at Maison&Objet, the Paris design fair held from 9-13 September, where ten Hungarian designers presented their work. Sára Kele’s furniture family made it to the top of the French Marie Claire’s list.

One of the main strategic objectives of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency is to strengthen the international visibility of Hungarian products, thus contributing to the economic stability and exportability of the brands. The Maison&Objet trade fair, considered among the top three most influential interior design events in Europe, was one of the key stages in this process of creating opportunities for international presence.

“Maison&Objet is an excellent opportunity for Hungarian designers to attract the interest of foreign customers and thus pave the way for their entry into the international market. This year’s exhibition is particularly important for them, as after a long time they can once again present themselves in person to the international design profession, thus making valuable connections that they can build on in the future. The event opens up new horizons for participating designers, allowing them not only to increase their visibility but also to boost their export earnings. Our agency also supports these processes with an on-site sales representative”, said Zsófia Bata-Jakab, CEO of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency.

Visitors had the chance to see the work of ten Hungarian designers under the Budapest Select umbrella brand: Máté Horváth’s Loop dresser, Mix chair and Plane clock; Zsuzsanna Horváth’s Fringe lamp and Nornir wall clock; Sára Kele’s Tangens furniture family; Rita Koralevics’ “U” turn seating; Dániel Lakatos’ Tiles chair; Miklós Leits’ Hommage lamp; Error N’ More’s TA plate set; Loomiosa’s Leaf and Delta lamps; Oleant Blass’ Genesis lamp and POSITION Collective’s Berii and Pran lamp family.

The Tangens furniture family, created by designer Sára Kele in collaboration with the Rotte Group during the design LAB incubation program, was awarded the prestigious 12th place in the French Marie Claire top list.

At the Maison&Objet fair, Hungarian designers were represented in the Signature Hall, where creative partitioning solutions further highlighted the objects. This led to a number of discussions and negotiations between buyers and designers. A dedicated virtual corner was also part of the stand, where visitors could get a glimpse into the digital spaces of the five-time international award-winning 360 Design Budapest exhibition with the help of VR glasses.  Alongside the Budapest Select stand, the works of the seven designer—producer duos participating in the MDDÜ’s first Design LAB incubation program were on show at Le French Design Galerie, one of the official venues of Paris Design Week this year.
