Sebastian Schubmehl’s thesis, KYIV TYPE, approaches and presents the design scene of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, in a way that fills a gap. A beautiful, large publication that gives an intimate insight into the life of the city, showcasing its inhabitants and a special design publication.
Throughout the project, the designer kept in mind that even absolutely lay readers with no prior knowledge of the subject could enjoy reading the book.
The visual appearance of the volume is embodied in the experiences and impressions gained by the German graphic designer during his stay in Kyiv. Postcards, prints, posters, inscriptions: the face of today’s Kyiv comes to life through typographic and design content as well as the author’s own photos.
Last but not least, he approaches and examines the connections between typography, letter design and design in the Ukrainian capital and its wider environment with professional sensitivity and understanding.
