London’s newest basketball court gets 3D-printed

Designer Ynka Ilori used the vivid colors and vibrant patterns typical of his work to create the first public basketball court of Canary Wharf, London’s financial district.

Unlike on average basketball courts, Ilori used 3D-printed polypropylene tiles for the flooring. The technology allows the designer’s hallmark geometrical motifs to create a kaleidoscope-like effect on the track. According to Dezeen, despite its unordinary choice of material the designer Ilori—a veteran of recoloring public spaces—believes that the basketball court will be quite resistant to the usual wear and tear.
