Legendary designer Virgil Abloh has died at the age of 41. He was the first African-American to become an art director at a French luxury fashion house.
For more than two years, he has been battling angiosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer that has developed in his heart. The announcement of his death was posted on November 28 on the designer’s official Instagram page, where his family, wife and two children also say their goodbyes.
Virgil Abloh has been CEO of Off-White, the Milan-based fashion house he founded in 2013 and was appointed Creative Director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s division in 2018. In 2019, his handprint was brought to a broader audience with the debut of a limited-edition collection for IKEA.
