The Czech lighting specialist LASVIT has dreamed up its biggest artwork in Europe to date for an office building in Prague. The Iceberg is a 463-square-meter illuminated pendant sculpture made of crystal glass.
The installation consists of 110 glass elements and 1503 pressed wooden boards. The designer handmade a pattern for the base, into which the glass was sintered. The wooden planks vary in length, shape and width, each creating a unique, wave-like effect. If we stacked the slats one behind the other, they would form a 1.2-kilometer-long row. The wooden slats are perforated in different ways, creating a grid in which the glass elements are hung to allow light to pass through, highlighting the handmade decoration of each piece of glass.
