Necessity is the mother of invention, as the saying goes. One thing is for sure, there wouldn’t be so many creative and practical hand sanitizers also reinvented in terms of aesthetics if it weren’t for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bompas & Parr teamed up with the Design Museum in London to launch a hand sanitizer design competition named The Fountain of Hygiene, inviting designers to submit their designs reinventing hand sanitization. Entrants could submit their projects in three categories: Luxury, Sustainability and Innovation. The latter was also open for ideas beyond hand sanitizers.

To demonstrate the extravaganza of the projects submitted, here’s an example, the designs made by Sally Reynolds winning the Luxury Design category. The designer proposed a pedal-activated sanitizer dispenser unit made from recycled plastics that have the appearance of a colorful terrazzo stone. The winning objects will be auctioned off by Christie’s to generate funds for the Red Cross.
