International call for the redesign of the Prague funicular

International call for the redesign of the Prague funicular

Since 1985, fifty-five million people have visited Prague’s most exciting attraction, the Prague Funicular, with 2 million visitors a year and 290 people a day. The transport company’s management is now launching an international competition to invite designers from all over the world to repolish Prague’s jewel.

This timeless, innovative and contemporary project is not only a serious challenge but also a significant milestone in Prague’s cultural history. The unique vehicle of the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP), which has a remarkable history, has made it easier for tourists, hikers, skiers and cyclists to get to the top of Mount Petřín on numerous occasions over the years. The single-carriage vehicle, in service since 1891, has been rebuilt several times over the years—and thanks to new technologies, it has undergone several external changes. Following the last reconstruction in 1985, it is now time for a revamp. However, the question may arise: is it a good idea to rebuild a Czech national treasure based on foreign designs? In any case, the Czech capital’s openness to the world is enviable, thus putting themselves on the global design map.

Mama’s cooking, in Chinese | Authentic lunch at ZHU & Co.

Food connects us. Perhaps this is one of my strongest experiences since I started working on the subject. Sure, it’s good to experiment, to try new things, but it’s still different to sit down at a common table with your loved ones or your family. Everything just tastes
