To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wisława Szymborska, the toy company has created a model to honor the poetess.
The scene, which consists of around twenty-one thousand pieces and is on display in the Małopolska Garden of Arts (MOS) in Szymborska’s hometown of Krakow, depicts the moment she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996.
The model was designed and built by Mateusz Kustra, Poland’s first certified Lego builder, and was presented by Sebastian Szwaczka of Lego Polska, Michał Rusinek, head of the Wisława Szymborska Foundation, and Krzysztof Głuchowski, representative of the City of Krakow.
“Wisława Szymborska hated pathos, not only in poetry but also in her private life. So how to recall the Nobel Prize ceremony, but disarm its pathos? Recreate it with Lego bricks, of course,” said Rusiniak
Kustra has also hidden some coded messages among the blocks, including a cat, an onion, and a map, referring to various works by the poet.
