A lakeside fishermen’s wharf blending in with the landscape perfectly. In cooperation with Chinese HEXIA architect office, Madrid and Amsterdam-based MADAM studio designs a dune-shaped pavilion in the framework of a new Chinese urban development project. Let’s see the details.
The specially designed pavilion forms part of a new hospitality complex outside the city of Jiaxing, China, under the name Gingko swan lake. In the framework of the project, 11 pavilions of special functions, designed by 11 different international studios will be built on the area in addition to the Ginkgo biloba forest and a lake with rich wildlife. The landmarks scattered around the lake form a complex and unique system, and the majority of them fulfils hospitality functions or offers points of engagement with the natural landscape.
MADAM and HEXIA architect studio participating in the project sensitively design the pavilions located under the lakeside dunes, completely fading into the landscape. The facility Fishermen’s wharf located at the eastern side of the lake will fulfil the role of a small boathouse and café, offering visitors fishing and rowing boats to rent.
The fishermen’s wharf comprises two land-art cutouts allowing access to the pavilion. The first ensures access to and exit from the island, the moderate design of which does not distract the visitors’ eyes from the natural beauty of the landscape. The other opens the pavilion more broadly to face the lake, with finger-shaped docks placed on its continuation reaching into the water.
