Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto has designed ‘Nicolas Ruinart Pavilion’, a new visitor center for Ruinart, the oldest champagne house in Reims, France.
The building is made of natural stone and wood, and is covered by a gradient glass façade topped by a curved roof. The pavilion is characterized by simplicity and modernity, both contrasting with and reflecting the historic buildings adjacent to it. The architect and his Parisian team designed a shape inspired by the Ruinart bottle and the curve of a champagne bubble.
The site is an artistic experience in itself, but the project will also create further links between the new and old buildings, including an artist’s garden that will serve as a sanctuary for biodiversity and creative expression, while offering a variety of experiences related to champagne.
