Prague Quadrennial opens today

Between 8 and 18 June, the event will showcase over three hundred works by more than a hundred artists.

Since 1967, the Prague Quadrennial has been showcasing the best works of scenography, with an emphasis on the autonomy of the art form. This year, the main venue will be the Holešovice Market, but the National Gallery and the Academy of Performing Arts will also host a number of events. PQ is not just a festival, however: it is a platform for exploring progressive approaches, new media, virtual spaces, and interdisciplinary relations.

For the two main exhibitions—the Countries and Regions Exhibition and the Student Exhibition—the artistic teams from each country and region were nominated by representatives of the local curators. There are also eight other program sections, curated by the international PQ team. Each program section explores scenography and performance art from a different perspective, making the Prague Quadrennial one of the most versatile cultural events in the world.
