In a neglected part of the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, a public swimming pool has been transformed into a public square. The design of this unique experience was the brainchild of the Nikoloz Lomidze and Alexander Gharibashvili designer duo.
The district serves as an arts and sports quarter, and with the revamp of the Olympic swimming pools, it has now been enriched with another pleasant space. The pool has been transformed into an eight-level amphitheater, with steps and ramps added to the terraced seating areas to improve accessibility. The final layout was achieved by building seven cement block walls of different heights—the spaces between the walls were leveled with earth and gravel. The paving was coated with blue as a reminder of the past.
