The utopian history of plastic | Vitra Design Museum

Opening in March 2022, the VITRA Vitra Design Museum in Germany presents the exhibition plastic: remaking our world as an exploration of the history and future of the controversial material.

Plastic has, for many years and decades, symbolized uncontrolled consumption and revolutionary innovation, while keeping many doors open for designers and architects. Today, the dramatic consequences of the plastic boom have become so obvious that the material has lost its utopian connotation. The exhibition covers everything from its rise in the twentieth century, to its environmental impact, and to solutions for a more sustainable use in the future.

About the exhibition:
Title: plastics: remaking our world
Location: Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, Germany
Open: 26 March – 4 September 2022
