AHA! – Moments of Clarity, an exhibition of student work from MOME’s Product Design and Interaction Design programmes, arrives in Budapest after Prague

There are moments when a connection that has remained hidden suddenly comes into focus. This instant of realisation lies at the heart of AHA! – Moments of Clarity, an exhibition by Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), arriving in Budapest following its presentation at Designblok 2026 in Prague. A curated selection of student projects from MOME’s Hungarian-language BA in Product Design, English-language MA in Design and MA in Interaction Design will be on view at Turbina Cultural Centre from 20 to 22 October.

Reflecting on the theme of Designblok 2026, Light, the exhibition takes the metaphor of light as its starting point. It explores the cognitive spark that emerges when an unexpected connection is recognised. Curiosity, experimentation and critical reflection are therefore at the heart of AHA!. Rather than offering definitive, fixed answers, the exhibited works invite visitors to ask questions and reconsider familiar perspectives.

Dorottya Féja, Head of the BA in Product Design at MOME, explains:

“An essential part of design thinking is the ability to experiment, make mistakes, learn from them and, in doing so, gain a deeper understanding of a problem. The specific tools and professional skills required of designers are constantly evolving, which is why curiosity and a willingness to experiment lie at the core of design practice. This mindset provides a lasting point of reference, even as the field continues to change.”

Projects from the three programmes explore this approach through a diverse range of subjects, media and design methodologies. András Kerékgyártó, Head of the MA in Design at MOME, adds:

“This diversity is also central to our educational approach. Since designers encounter a wide variety of challenges throughout their careers, our goal is not so much to equip students with a fixed set of specialist skills as to foster a way of thinking that enables them to discover new connections and develop original solutions to different problems.”

The students’ work ranges from designed objects to speculative propositions. Reflecting on the role of light in projects from the MA in Interaction Design, programme head Tamás Fogarasy says:

“Light as intimate feedback. Light as supplementary information. Light as something private, allowing us to shut out the surrounding environment. Light becomes visible through displays, projections and lamps, functioning as a pattern that supports the exhibitors’ various functional or autonomous artistic objectives.”

Over three evenings, the Budapest exhibition will present 48 student projects at Turbina. AHA! invites visitors not only to encounter finished objects and projects, but also to discover entirely new ways of looking at the world. Throughout the exhibition, students from all three participating programmes will present their work in a series of accompanying events taking place from 20 to 22 October.

The programme includes professional talks, student presentations, roundtable discussions and moderated debates, alongside student-led exhibition tours and informal conversations accompanied by music. Events will take place each evening between 6 pm and 9 pm.
