Zaha Hadid Architects and Block Research Group have created the first unreinforced 3D-printed concrete bridge.
We recently reported on a printed bridge: its counterpart, currently displayed in the Giardini della Marinaressa park, combines traditional masonry techniques with advanced computer-aided design, engineering and robotic manufacturing technologies. It aims to showcase an alternative, more sustainable and ecologically responsible approach to concrete construction. The project, called Striatus, involved printing 53 concrete blocks that enclose arches to hold each other in place: the structure achieves its stability solely through its geometry.
