Furniture with character

Masquespacio, co-founded by Ana Milena Hernández and Christophe Penasse, aims to use design to emphasize user experience and the love of communication. Each piece they create has its own story that has a potential of connecting with people.

In search of new challenges, Masquespacio founded Mas Creations, whose latest collection is 3 Characters. The collection is a series of chair and lamp designs inspired by the encounter of three friends. The designers have brought together different personality types to create something new and unexpected from the attraction of opposites. The first piece in the collection is the Say Hi! lounge chair, which conveys openness and positivity already in its name. The designers have embodied a cheerful character in the elegant design, which is expressed in both the hugging arm and smiley face, as well as in the playful purple upholstery. The piece is entirely 3D printed.

The Trencadis chair is slightly more complex than the previous piece. The designers imagined a person who had to overcome many obstacles in life to achieve well-being. The design was intended to reflect the overcome of a tough but powerful life experience. The chair’s striking cover is made up of a mosaic of broken trencadis tile pieces, symbolizing the small obstacles the character had to overcome, and also evoking Antoni Gaudí’s exquisite style.

The Dumbbell lamp is the last piece in the collection, which resembles a dumbbell used for working out. This character is a slightly duller but fun personality, who can lighten up the mood anywhere. The design of the structure has a double meaning: it visualizes both instability and a cheeky, laid-back personality. The Dumbbell lamp is made up of two glass spheres and the material that holds them together, the contrast of which also reflects the constantly balancing personality of a sometimes blunt, oftentimes funny individual.
