Design object and experience in one | Kirakós Budapest

Three girls in love with graphics, tasteful home decor objects and games felt like something was missing on the Hungarian puzzle market: meet Kirakós Budapest, a contemporary design puzzle for adults!

Founders Eszter Glaser, Anna Katalin Lovrity and Regina Papp sought to answer the question of why it wasn’t the works of Hungarian artists displayed on puzzles or even the walls of our homes. In addition to promoting local artists, Kirakós Budapest also offers an experience while enriching our home with a cool design object.

“I think it’s insanely exciting that the player gets to know an artwork broken down to such small elements. If you buy a poster, I doubt that you examine it thoroughly for three hours to get to know every tiny detail of it. But if you do the puzzle, you’ll know it almost as much as the creator herself” – Kata highlighted.

In the first collection of the puzzle brand, we can pick our favorites out of the works of three creators: we can immerse in Anna Katalin Lovrity‘s graphics made for her animation Volcano Island, Judit Orosz‘s illustrations inspired by plants or the details of Vivien Hárshegyi‘s artworks.

“What I like the most about Vivi is her laid-back and easy-going style, which I think many people lose after childhood. Talking to her is just as much refreshing as looking at her drawings. In Judit’s work, my favorite is the sophistication and charm which she brings to each piece. Kata’s collage-like works match puzzles well, as they make entertainment full of challenges. I am very delighted that we started with three creators with such different visual worlds, and I hope everyone will find a puzzle to their liking” – Eszter explained.

The freshly debuted, 300-piece puzzles are already very popular. “When we started our market research, we were surprised to see that this genre has a very serious subculture both in Hungary and abroad. After we launched our Instagram page, a lot of puzzle-fans came out from hiding, and many people contacted us from abroad saying that they liked our project. After the first few purchases, we can see that contemporary design is a good buzzword, many people would like to immerse in a non-online activity, and they are happy to hang the graphics on the wall once they have completed it” – Regina told us.

It is Eszter, Kata and Regina’s not so secret goal to also work with foreign artists in addition to the Hungarian ones. The team plans to launch additional specialties soon, and they also prepare with an extra surprise for the Christmas period. “When we brainstorm, we sometimes have sassy ideas like making a puzzle without giving an image or creating a few series out of the drawings of our friends’ children. We are absolutely open to experimentation” – Eszter added.

If you’re in the mood for some puzzles or would like to surprise your loved ones with unique presents, go and take a look around Kirakós Budapest’s online store and pick your favorites!
