HYPE | Weekly online program guide

We’ll kick this week off with some jewelry, we’ll check out the fashion history exhibition of the Hungarian National Museum, and we’ll close the week with an online collage workshop. Our weekly selection also includes interviews with Hungarian and foreign designers, and for the kids, we recommend an architecture-related program for the week. Let’s see the details!

emptyroom.art – The jewelry of Patrícia Harsány

The team of Mozambique-based emptyroom.art firmly believes that nurturing our creativity and sharing the imprints of the same with each other is even more important in these extraordinary times, and so they launched “a virtual residency program”, looking for creations made in the past period. Jewelry designer Patrícia Harsány also participates in the program, and on Monday evening, she will talk about how she launched the idea of her quarantine jewelry series, what inspires her and how the creative process takes place in her case. The video will be available on the Facebook, Instagram and Youtube channel of emptyroom.art.

Art against Covid-19

A month ago, visual artist Zsuzsanna Kóródi offered one of her works for auction, with the intention of giving the amount generated to the Foundation for the Patients, Doctors and Employees of Szent László and Szent István Hospitals. The auction was a success, and soon a Facebook group was also started where other artists and designers could also join the initiative. Kóródi is, by the way, an artist represented by VILTIN Gallery, and the institution also stood by the cause with their own idea: the gallery shares new works of art each week, and offers 25% of the revenues to various organizations.

Clara – Fashion Queen Behind the Iron Curtain –  Curator’s tour online

The Hungarian National Museum had to close the exhibition showcasing the work of Klára Rotschild prematurely. The exhibition allows us to take a peek into the life and career of the successful designer, while also giving a comprehensive view of the era of Socialist Hungary loaded with contradictions and the clothing culture of the elite of the time. Now you can attend the exhibition online: the curator of the exhibition, Ildikó Simonovics will guide those interested through the exhibition in a series of videos, the first two parts of which are already available on the Youtube channel of the museum.

Design Dispatches – Interview with designer Hella Jongariaus

In the framework of the Design Dispatches program of Design Museum in London, you can get to know designers better via live talks and studio tours. A few days ago they published an interview with Dutch designer Hella Jongariaus, who combines new technologies and handicrafts in her work. Amongst others, she also talks about how the time spent at home encourages us to think more about our relationship to objects in the interview and that she hopes this can bring global changes. According to Jongariaus, in addition to designers, buyers have the most important role in discouraging global production as there is no market without them. She also talks about the responsibility of designers in the interview available on Instagram .

World Collage Day – online workshop

In 2018, the editorial team of Kolaj magazine declared the second Saturday of May to be international collage day, and this “event” hasn’t been cancelled even in spite of the unusual circumstances. To celebrate this remarkable occasion, on May 9 artKRAFT Collage Studio will launch several online collage workshops: at the morning sessions, you can do some regular paper collaging, while in the afternoon, participants will collage on wooden cubes and selected wooden materials. The necessary materials will be brought to the participants by couriers, who will also bring some Majomkenyér cookies in addition to the carefully compiled collage packages. All you have to do is make sure you have scissors and a stable internet connection, and the rest is taken care of by the leader of artKRAFT Collage Studio and the workshop, collage artist Zsuzsa Lakner.
