Highlights of Hungary | 55 new candidates

Highlights of Hungary builds the value-creating community of Hungary – the audience can vote for the latest selection from today. The candidates prove on a common platform that a bio garden at Hernádszentandrás, the Wagner-days, the “Other condition in obstetrics” movement, Hungarian nature photographer Bence Máté, KOLORÁDÓ festival and the Hungarian Benedictines can all coexist in the inspiring and creative Hungarian sphere. You can vote for the 55 candidates until February 10, 2020. The awards ceremony, which is the joint celebration and appreciation of Hungarian values, will be held on February 21.

The audience can vote for the candidates of Highlights of Hungary for the seventh time. The independent initiative collects the most inspiring stories of Hungary without categories, and invites us to participate with a telling call: “Join Hungary’s value-creating community!” The goal of Highlights is to shed light on inspiring matters, to raise curiosity towards them and to bring together the participants – curators, candidates, business and media partners and the audience –, and this way to promote the launch of collaborations, as well as to further enhance the initiative’s impact on the community and the society. As Tibor Remete, the strategic director of Super Channel, the creative agency that founded the initiative puts it: the candidates are loveable stories that surround us, which we can all be proud of.

You can select your favorites from a particularly wide range this year, too: the list includes movements promoting garbage collection at the Tisza river, food distribution initiatives, bio farms in the countryside, a theater group, a fine arts fair, an architect studio, a designer brand, initiatives created for supporting underprivileged young people, a neurobiologist, graphic designers and pop bands, too. The unique selection presents the true face of Hungary authentically, by collecting the stories, achievements and messages that are worth to take note of.

The same as in previous years, the Hungarian success stories were collected by a 10-member curator team . The curators themselves come from diverse fields, however, they all have one thing in common: they look for values in everyday life, they observe the world surrounding them and the innovative happenings of Hungary openly and sensitively.

Past years’ curator teams have already included Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy, the leader of Design Terminal and the founder of Brain Bar, economist – sociologist Gabriella Liptay , who is also the Director of Marketing and Communication at KPMG, architecture and design critic József Martinkó, who is also the editor-in-chief of Octogon magazine, Levente Trellay, the founder of Telep Gallery, as well as Judit Varga , two-time Emmy nominee production designer and the head of PropClub. This year, they were joined by UK ambassador Iain Lindsay, TV hostVivien Mádai , musician and journalist Zsolt Prieger , who is also the front man of Anima Sound System, interior designer Péter Szendrő, the founder of 81font, and actress Franciska Törőcsik. Super Channel also expands the list with five candidates each year.

You can vote between January 13 and February 10, 2020, on the website of Highlights of Hungary. The audience prize, special prizes and the appreciation of the curators will be awarded on February 21, at the closing ceremony held at Katona József Theater.

Saving neon signs with CSŐ! posters

The “neonization” of Budapest started approximately fifty years ago – beautiful typos and neat colors lighted up and made the city image more chiseled. Főz-Süt-Fűt (Cooks-Bakes-Heats), Bambi, Méteráru (Dry Goods), Csemege (Deli) – just to mention a few. True glory! However, only a few of these beloved illuminating signs remained in operable
