Hungarian design brand wins prestigious international award | Plydesign

Plydesign’s FRIGATE chair family was awarded at the IF DESIGN AWARD, one of the world’s most celebrated and valued design competitions. Interestingly, over the contest’s 67 years of existence, never has a Hungarian furniture family been awarded, thus making Plydesign’s victory not only an important milestone in the brand’s life, but in the history of the Hungarian furniture industry, too.

With the FRIGATE chair family, Plydesign founder and CEO Tamás Babits and lead designer András Kerékgyártó created a responsible, economic, ergonomic and aesthetic set, owing to a technological innovation. In the course of its production, they combine both old and new technologies: the backrest is made with a 3D-Veneer technology, while the seat part is manufactured through a conventional moulded plywood process. Thus, the chairs can offer the same comfort as their peers made entirely with 3D-Veneer, with more favorable sales conditions.

The aspects of eco-consciousness also played a key role in the course of design: each and every FRIGATE chair is made of FSC certified wood and OEKO-TEX® and EU Ecolabel certified upholstery fabrics. Thanks to the smart design, the chairs are easy to take apart and assemble back again, which makes their transportation efficient and economic.
