Poetizer, a community site for poetry lovers, has set up its office on the fourth floor of the First Republic building, in one of Prague’s most vibrant streets. In the center of the space is an artificial Garden of Eden with more than a hundred species of plants, inspired by the thoughts of anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss. The design of the symbolic and minimalist interior was conceived by designer Johana Sedláčková Vamberská and architect Tomáš Císař. Let’s see!
Poetizer is the largest poetry-themed community site in the world, with users from over 120 countries posting poems. The startup’s vision is to revolutionize the publishing industry: their recently launched eco-minded platform democratizes the publishing process, allowing anyone to share and sell their poems. Their Prague office is also meant to reflect this ethos: the interior design, conceived by Johana Sedláčková Vamberská and Tomáš Císař, is driven by a sense of responsibility towards the environment and a minimalist mentality.
At the heart of the office space is a pavilion-like structure filled with plants, “a wild jungle, a mythical Eden, an area that expresses the concept of wild thinking”, explain the designers. The greenhouse evokes the ideas of Claude Levi-Strauss, as the French anthropologist likened intuitive and associative thinking to the ecosystem of a rich jungle, which he contrasted with strictly rational thinking. Both our ancient ancestors and contemporary poetry operate according to such structures: the pronounced spatial element of the Poetizer office also represents this freedom.
The greenhouse, growing more than 170 plants, is a place for informal gatherings, streaming poetry readings, or serving as a place to relax. The office space also houses two workstations arranged into islands for daily work and meetings. This space is connected to the kitchen and a balcony. Additionally, from the reception area, there is access to two further meeting rooms and a separate room for in-depth work.
The colors and materials used in the interior reflect the function of each space: white, the symbol of the paper, is the color of the rooms designed for concentrated work. In the areas used for communication or for making connections, dark green is the dominating color, often accentuated by orange, which ties in with Poetizer’s identity.
