New Karlovy Vary Film Festival trailer filmed in Budapest with Johnny Depp

In this humorous video, the Hollywood star is interviewed at the Gellért Hotel in Budapest about why he hasn’t won an award at the Czech Film Festival yet.

From 30 June to 8 July, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the region’s most prestigious film event, will take place. As is tradition, this year’s trailer for the 57th edition of the film festival was unveiled at the opening ceremony over the weekend. Directed by Ivan Zachariáš, a well-known advertising and film director, the few-minute short film stars no lesser star than Johnny Depp, who rose from the ashes this year as a phoenix after his long and ugly public divorce. The actor was working in Europe at the time of the planned shoot, so he briefly popped over to Budapest, where the scene was filmed in the magnificent Art Nouveau Gellért Hotel, which is currently undergoing renovation. He didn’t even have to rehearse too much in advance for the shoot, which lasted about two and a half hours, according to the director: "Right at the start of the shoot he told me that he would prefer to improvise,” said Zachariáš. “I was initially a bit taken aback, but it turned out to be a great idea since Johnny ended up putting even more of his own personality into the trailer." Depp probably took the role out of gratitude, as the festival’s management has stood by the actor throughout—even when he was being dismissed from major productions—and he was made the film festival’s guest of honor in 2021.

The Hungarian startup market faces a series of challenges and misguided responses

Warsaw is not Budapest. Not in old buildings and historical beauty, certainly, but not in the startup sector, either. The Polish startup sector is the most developed in the Central and Eastern European region, while Hungarian startups are underperforming in a regional comparison. Although the Hungarian startup ecosystem has shown
