Sneakers or works of art? | Adidas X Meissen

Adidas teamed up with the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe: the result is a unique, hand-made work of art.

As part of Adidas’s A-ZX collection, a special piece will debut at the end of this year: the ZX8000 sneaker is a collaboration between Adidas and Meissen Porcelain Manufactory established more than 300 years ago, which almost qualifies as a work of art with its hand-painted leather and porcelain details.

The model displays the patterns of the Meissen Krater vase, crafted by four individual painters. Weighing exactly 950 grams, the pair of sneakers was assembled over a six month period. The unique pair featuring porcelain elements will be auctioned off via Sotheby’s this week, while the commercially-available silhouette will be available for purchase in December.
