Stamps show off the best of British sci-fi

The Time Machine, Frankenstein and Brave New Worldthe Royal Mail pays homage to British sci-fi writers with a collection of six stamps.

The 2021 release of the stamp collection that recalls sci-fi classics is linked to two anniversaries: the 75th anniversary of the death of sci-fi writer H.G. Wells and the 70th anniversary of the publication of John Wyndham’s The Day of the Triffids.

Six illustrators were invited to design the stamps, which were created as a collaboration of the Royal Mail and the Webb & Webb design studio. The artists depicted the iconic scenes and atmosphere of the literary works in their distinct styles, using various techniques.

Mary Shelley: Frankenstein. Illustrated by Sabina Šinko.
HG Wells: The Time Machine. Illustrated by Francisco Rodríguez.
Aldous Huxley: Brave New World. Illustrated by Thomas Danthony.
John Wyndham: The Day of the Triffids. Illustrated by Mick Brownfield.
Arthur C Clarke: Childhood’s End. Illustrated by Matt Murphy.
