The power of femininity | Ada Jarzębowska Polish graphic designer

The Polish graphic designer is fond of collages and hand-drawn illustrations, her artwork depictis strong female characters.

Ada Jarzębowska studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona and at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. She currently lives and works in Poznań, Poland, although her illustrations reach much further, as she collaborates with cultural institutions, clothing brands, and orchestras around the world.

One of her most spectacular collaborations was with Momme Studio from Singapore, in which she explored the theme of astrology in her illustrations. The collection is entitled The Four Elements, as each zodiac sign is associated with the elements of fire, water, earth, and air.

The three different designs are available in the form of silk scarves, reminiscent of the visual world of traditional Japanese vases, each with a symbol of each element.

Femininity is a recurring motif, but her works include both real scenes—such as a swimming pool or a woman resting in her bed—and magical themes, as in the case of the girl carrying the whole sea in her hair.

Her work is mostly inspired by big cities, their old neighborhoods, and trees, which are also often recurring motifs. For example, the image below, part of an animation for the Franta Group’s Christmas campaign, is based on the Christmas urban bustle.
