Tartsd körforgásban! (Keep it in circulation!) – This is the motto of this year’s Budapest Design Week, which will be held between October 1-11 in a hybrid form in line with the situation surrounding the coronavirus. In addition to the regular venues, there will also be events in the online space according to the concept.
The 17th Budapest Design Week wishes to call attention to the importance and prominent role of the circular economy. “In addition to the force majeure topic of the coronavirus, and in relation to that, currently the most urgent issue of the world is that of sustainability, a priority aspect of which is the circular economy, a more complex approach reaching beyond simple recycling” – highlighted Judit Osvárt, the professional leader of the program series, a member of the Hungarian Design Council.
The event series will consist of two main types of programs this year, as well: the contents and programs developed by the Design Week on the one hand, and the events organized by external partners in relation to Budapest Design Week. The partners recommended for participation will be selected by the designated professional members of the Hungarian Design Council out of the external applicants. Similarly to previous years, the award ceremony of the Hungarian Design Award and Design Management Award will also be held during Budapest Design Week. In addition, the “Nyitott Stúdiók” (Open Studios) program will be held in the form of an extraordinary online series, allowing those interested to get an insight into the operation of the workshops of Hungarian designers and design studios. The coronavirus epidemic forced many Hungarian designers and businesses to come up with unique solutions, which will be presented in the form of a series of videos at the event. Businesses and initiatives giving a central role to circular economy will also be presented in short movies. The events and programs will be displayed on the platforms of Budapest Design Week in a fixed and transparent schedule.
Similarly to previous years, the patron and sponsor of the festival is the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office, and the event will be organized by the Hungarian Design Council.
