Co-working and co-living house | Mokrin, Serbia

How to bring the members of the local community and creative freelancer to a single platform? This is what Mokrin House attempts to achieve. In the latest episode of our PACE X HYPEANDHYPER series, you can get to know this project implemented in Vojvodina.

Mokrin is a settlement in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, established back in the days of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The village does not have any special historical or cultural traditions, however, it received a significant cultural momentum a few years ago.

In the framework of the Terra Panonica program, Serbian architecture studio Autori was commissioned to build a complex that can serve as accommodation for tourists arriving to the region, and a sort of residence for freelancer creatives. Since these people need work stations, the project also encompasses a co-working office, and the accommodation options certainly qualify as co-living spaces.

The lot, which can be perceived as the modern reinvention of a rural estate, currently gives home to five buildings. All were built in a contemporary spirit, in a manner hardly evoking the traditional design and structure of local houses, including a guest house, a co-working space, a hostel, an administrative building and a community space.

The complex is also open to locals: it’s a perfect venue for organizing community programs and workshops, and also serves as a meeting point between the locals and tourists.

Effortlessly, but not superficially. Thinking about past and present as a whole, while remaining open. Easily, without gags, but spiced with some humor. With just the right amount of enthusiasm, served professionally… that’s enough: it’s working.assistant professor Péter Fejérdy DLA
