Feminine figures, with patterns in vivid colors combined with plants, on nostalgic images. The illustrations of Slovenian-born Alja Horvat are inspired by the fashion and musical world of the ‘60s and the ‘70s as well as her love for nature.
Alja Horvat has been a fan of art and drawing since her childhood, but she only started to pursue it in 2017. She was inspired by artists including Josef Frank, Henri Matisse or Pierre Boncompain in terms of visual image. Her works put various feminine figures in the center, inspired by persons close to her.
Alja works with both digital and traditional techniques. You cannot only find her brave and colorful illustrations in the form of paintings or prints, but on various pieces of clothing, as well as bathing suits and other accessories such as socks or yoga mats, too.
So far, the designer has worked with brands including Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters or CeliaB, but she has also collaborated with Reanult, and now she plans to debut a new project.
“I work with a well-known Slovenian brand at the moment. When I started focusing more on illustration, not too much people noticed my work in Slovenia. Therefore I’m very excited because in the past one and a half years, I only got to work with American brands. Actually this will be my second collaboration with a Slovenian brand, which I also happen to like” – told us Alja.

Alja Horvat was selected into the Forbes 30 Under 30 Art & Culture 2020 list, and she also won the Elle Style Fashion Award for Young Talent in 2019.
