On 28 July 1943, Ingvar Kamprad, aged just 17, founded IKEA in Älmhult, Sweden. To mark the anniversary, the company is celebrating 80 years of entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration by reimagining iconic products from the early days and connecting the past with the future with a new collection.
In the beginning, IKEA was a small business: customers ordered from a catalog, and products were delivered by the then-teenager Ingvar on his own bicycle. Since then, IKEA has grown to 62 countries, 462 touchpoints, 700 million physical visitors, and 2.6 billion online visitors.
To pay homage to 80 years of design, the IKEA team has gone back through past products and brought back to life some of the favorites of the years. These iconic products are now part of the new Nytillverkad collection with bright, fun colors and new materials. With these pieces, the company thanks its customers for the past 80 years and looks forward to the next 80 years.
