IKEA launches joint collection with Scandinavian design icon

The new product line designed by Marimekko for IKEA will hit the shelves in March, offering vibrant patterns with a Scandinavian feel.

We recently reported on IKEA’s latest limited-edition designer collaboration, and now the next one has arrived! With 26 new products coming in just a few weeks, IKEA and Marimekko’s new joint collection BASTUA promotes the joy and pleasure of caring for oneself, featuring furniture, glassware, and textiles. The collection is inspired by the world of Scandinavian saunas and healthy activities that help us recharge our batteries. The products are designed to be used by everyone, whether spending the warm summer months by the water or relaxing after a long day with a routine that promotes physical and mental well-being.

The BASTUA collection features bold and beautiful patterns that evoke nature and the familiar surroundings of saunas. This is the first time that Marimekko has designed patterns exclusively for a brand. Marimekko’s stated mission is to empower people to experience happiness to the fullest and to bring joy into their everyday lives through bold patterns and colors. One of the main ornamental elements was inspired by the huge, decorative rhubarb leaves often seen near sauna buildings in Finland. They appear on many of the collection’s pieces, including the iconic FRAKTA bag.
