Inflatable electric scooter

Lightweight, inflatable and foldable electric scooter for sustainable cities. Here comes the Poimo means of transport!

“Soft” vehicles, or soft mobility plays an important role in establishing sustainable and livable cities; the umbrella term includes all non-motorized means of transport such as walking, cycling, transportation via roller skates or skateboards that alleviate the emission resulting from transportation and protect our environment. The soft, lightweight and inflatable Poimo is another soft robotics development created by Ryosuke Yamamura, a member of the Japanese research organization Mercari R4D, the students of the University of Tokyo and Hisato Ogata, the designer of Takram studio.

The body of the scooter inflatable within minutes is made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and its components including its handles, wheels, a battery and a motor are all detachable for simple storage; the weight of the equipment does not exceed 5.5 kilograms.

According to the designers, the Poimo would like to replace electric bikes and scooters used for short distances that do not resolve the issue of easy portability and safety. Owing to its material, the inflatable means of transport would protect both the pedestrians and the rider in the event of an accident.

Poimo is currently just a prototype, but according to the designers, the final product will be even lighter, thus further simplifying portability, too.
