Letterman interviewed President Zelensky underground

The legendary American TV host has traveled to Kyiv, to make a secret interview with the Ukrainian president in a subway station.

The newest episode of David Letterman's talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, is available on Netflix since this Monday, for which he interviewed the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky.

“I’ve never done anything quite like this,” says Letterman in the episode’s trailer, who has traveled to the region not without hesitation, as although officially the Russian military completely withdrew its forces from Kyiv months ago, the weeks preceding the interview’s shoot has seen a series of rocket attacks against the Ukrainian capitol. For this reason, the interview has been conducted under complete secrecy, and underground, in one of Kyiv’s metro stations.

President Zelensky describes in the episode how the war deprives Ukrainian children of their childhood, adding that his son also knows the names of weapons by heart at this point. Answering Letterman’s question the politician says he is still unsure whether he wishes to stay in power after the war, cracking a joke that what he really wants is going to the beach, once they’ve won, and opening a beer.
