Opera Gin Budapest wins another gold medal

Opera Gin Budapest has become a gold medalist on IWSC in London, the most prestigious international competition of the field – the product of the First Hungarian Gin Manufactory achieved another major appreciation, in the form of the greatest international award. This way, the gin manufactory from Újpest is not only a flagship of Hungarian gin renaissance, but has landed itself at the global forefront, too.

The International Wine & Spirit Competition organized in London every year since 1969 has become one of the most recognized global professional competitions today. This year, more than 800 gins were submitted in two categories. In the category of London Dry Gin with the strictest professional requirements, the Hungarian Opera Gin scored the 4th highest points out of the 224 entrants, thus defeating both global brands with hundreds of years of experience and new-wave distilleries.

Hungarian wines, palinkas and champaigns have already won some medals on this competition in their own categories over the past decades, but this was the first time that a Hungarian artisan gin earned such an award. Preparing for the event also referred to as the Oscars of the profession, the spirits and wines are tasted for almost half a year, with the inclusion of approx. 250 experts.

After the gold medal of The Global Spirits Masters announced in July and last year’s Red Dot award, now the First Hungarian Gin Manufactory is also a proud gold medalist on the most important international competitions of the field.
