In 2023, a tree in Łódź was the winner out of the sixteen finalists.
Since 2011, the European Tree of the Year contest has been searching for the trees with the most interesting story in Europe, with the final consisting of the winners of the national rounds. This year’s winner, with almost 46,000 votes, was a 180-year-old oak: the tree in Klepacz Park in Łódź has a canopy of 33 meters and an S-shaped branch more than 20 meters long. In the spring, the meadow around the oak tree blooms, making it even more magical.
The second place went to a 700-year-old Slovak oak with 18,000 votes and the third to a Ukrainian apple tree that has long since lost its main trunk but is still alive with 14,000 votes.
