The story of Vandor Studio is a story of perseverance. While working full time, Krisztina Vándor started developing her inventory of tools in an effort to open her own weaving workshop sometime in the future. In her studio launched this year in Kapitány utca, she welcomes those who are willing to learn the basics of weaving from her in the framework of the Open Studios program of this year’s Budapest Design Week.
After graduating from the textile design department, Krisztina Vándor found a job as a production manager. Although she learnt a lot during her work, she always had a vision of launching her own business where she can weave interior design objects. To source her tools, she needed a good deal of luck besides dedicated research: she owes one of her looms to an unexpected phone call.
The great dream finally came true in September 2019, and the studio moved into a little quiet street in the 12th district of Budapest in early 2020. The workshop regularly produces small-series pieces, as well as, in addition to the blankets and decorative pillow cases available in the webshop, washable serviettes and a number of other household textiles. Krisztina not only aims for delivering the highest quality, but also for combining sustainability and weaving. Each thread she uses is environmentally friendly and exclusively comes from the neighbouring countries – even the ecological footprint of her labels is minimised.
In the series of programmes Open Studios, she welcomes visitors interested in making household textile items on two weekend days. In her live broadcast, she will present her new collection, too.
