HYPE | Weekly program guide

Even we ourselves don’t know why, but this week is full of good lecture series and discussions, may it be about fashion, urbanism, festival management, speculative design or sustainable design. We also added two workshops to spice it up a bit. Let’s see the details!

Creative Bureaucracy: urban (existential)questions II.

The program series focusing on the questions of the livable city will continue on Monday evening at  Lumen, organised by  Mindspace. This time, we will focus more on creative bureaucracy in practice from the point of the institutions directing the cities. How can the city’s community create contact with those in charge of shaping the city? This is what journalist Le Marietta, the founder of  Járókelő.hu (this is the site where we can report if we see a broken bench, pothole or other problem in the street) will talk about with Gábor Bindics, who will share his thoughts about innovative city development and the relationship between local governments and city dwellers as the manager of Stará Tržnica market hall in Bratislava.

When: February 24, 2020, 18:00-21:00

Where: Café Lumen

Management of small art festivals – roundtable discussion

Although we visit a lot of small art festivals, we know little about the tasks imposed by their organization. These are days when everything is about creativity, freedom and community, which is, however, preceded by a few months of stone hard organization and project management. At the roundtable discussion of  Budapest Corvinus University on Monday evening, the event organizers of small art festivals (including  UbikEklektik, Zengető and AZURE Reformművészeti Találkozó (AZURE Reform Art Meetup)) will share their experiences about their work. If you are interested in art and design management, or simply the secrets of art festivals, this one is for you!

When: February 24, 2020, 19:00-20:30

Where: Budapesti Corvinus University, Building “C”

FFS Wednesday / Imaginary Cameras – the lecture of Tamás Waliczky

The imaginary cameras of Tamás Waliczky are digital fictions of objects that have never existed, but could have existed, if the technology of analog photography developed on other paths. He represented Hungary on the 58th Biennale di Venezia, and the adaptation of the exhibition organized in the Hungarian pavilion can now be seen in Ludwig Museum. On this week’s event of the Studio of Young Photographers, Waliczky himself will talk about his work in Mai Manó Ház. The title should not deceive you:  FFS Wednesday will be on Tuesday exceptionally this week!

When: February 25, 2020, 19:00-22:00

Where: Mai Manó Ház

FASHION, FASHION, FASHION – The joint lecture of Tünde Topor and Nóra Winkler

A surprisingly high number of museums organize fashion history exhibitions in Budapest nowadays: we started with the oeuvre of Tamás Király in Ludwig Museum, continued with the muster of brilliant pieces in Kiscell Museum, then with Klára Rotschild’s work in the Hungarian National Museum. The event description of Artmagazin may be true: fashion is in fashion right now! Tünde Topor and Nóra Winkler bring fashion history closer to the audience on the occasion of the mentioned exhibitions by adding their own personal stories. The discussion on Wednesday evening will feature the relationship of social status, political forces and artistic inspirations with fashion amongst others.

When: February 26, 2020, 18:00-20:00

Where: Loffice

NewTech Meetup birthday + Pecha Kucha Night Budapest vol.66

Pecha Kucha is a forum started off from Tokyo, featuring topics of urbanism and technology. One of its peculiarities is that each lecturer can project 20 images and one image can only be presented for 20 seconds, so we can expect quite dynamic presentations. NewTech Meetup is an exciting Hungarian initiative, which aims to bring together people interested in technology. We can experience the fusion of the two projects on Wednesday at a lecture series where the world of architecture, landscape architecture, design and IT meets. The event will focus on eco-anxiety, data and information, future, innovation and the relationship between fiction and technology.

When: February 26, 2020, 20:20-23:30

Where: TRIP

Distributed Design Meetup Vol. 2

FabLab Budapest is an innovation workshop with the aim of providing free access to different production technologies for everyone, and they recently joined an initiative (Distributed Design Market Platform) putting the focus on smart and sustainable design. This week’s Distributed Design Meetup will focus on the responsibility of designers. How does the designer contribute to the development of sustainable and livable cities? What does distributed design approach mean and what does it mean to be a maker? They will look for the answers to these questions with the invitees on Thursday night.
